What’s in my Carry on? Flight to London

For my college graduation trip, I chose to travel to London with my family. And one of my favorite parts of a city vacation is researching things to do and places to see. I knew that I absolutely wanted to bring my DSLR camera which meant that I needed a new and larger bag. I wanted to find a purse that was large enough to carry everything I wanted in my carry on but small enough to be used as an everyday purse and also fit my DSLR, and maybe a spare lens.

I researched ~large~ bags that also had a strap that could work as a crossbody. I was stuck between the Fossil Maya Hobo and the Madewell Medium Transport Tote. I really wanted a zipper but I also wanted a wearable color and the only Fossil Maya tote that was reasonably priced was Green. So I ended up purchasing the Madewell Medium Transport tote in English Saddle (this purse does come in a wide range of colors).

Madewell Medium Transport Tote

The medium transport tote is $158 that has short straps and a long strap, It has a front pocket and a zipper pocket on the inside. I signed up for their free insider program so that I could get free shipping and free monogramming. So if you’re interested in seeing what I brought in this bag as my carry on to London, keep on reading!

  • Sudoku: this game somehow makes times flyyyyyy. Also, this book is extremely light and fairly small which is a plus.
  • A Cat pouch filled with feminine products: There is nothing worse than your body surprising you with that time of the month and not having feminine products on you. I usually carry a few panty liners, two normal sized pads, two regular tampons, and two light tampons.
    • This cat pouch was a gift from one of my best friends when she went to Amsterdam, so I can’t link it.
  • My iPad mini: I use this to download Netflix shows and movies because normally the airplane tv quality is crap.

  • My Large Glossier pouch:
    • Travel sized toothpaste, travel toothbrush & floss: I like to carry these justin case I get motion sickness, or if my luggage gets lost.
    • My Birth Control Pills: also in case my luggage gets lost, certainly can’t get these in another country.
    • Feminine Wipes: sometimes I just want to freshen up after traveling for hours.
    • Vaseline lip balm: I have talked about this product about 100 times but it is my all-time favorite and I bring it everywhere with me.

  • My Sunglasses: These are just in here because I forgot to pack them and I didn’t want them to get crushed in my suitcase.
  • Tissues
  • Nest Indigo Rollerball: this is one of my favorite scents and I like to be able to freshen up when I get off the plane.
  • Colourpop Blotted Lip in Drip: This is a nice subtle color that I like to keep in my bag in case I’m looking a little boring and lifeless,
  • Crabtree & Evelyn Citron hand lotion: This scent makes me happy and it’s one of my favorite lotions. Never hurts to carry a hand lotion around.
  • Pen and Pencil
  • My Wallet
  • Apple Charger for my iPhone and iPad
  • Travel Charger: I realized that I didn’t need this because the plane actually had USB slots on them to charge my iPad and iPhone but it came in handy during the long adventure days in London.
  • My Bose Earbuds: these are my all-time favorite earbuds, they are extremely good quality and are very comfortable. Earbuds are always a travel necessity.

Current Skin Care Routine

This might shock you but I don’t wash my face in the morning or at night, only when I shower. I shower about every other day to three days. But every day I wipe my face down with some micellar water whether it’s to remove my makeup or just refresh my skin.

506fd0d8-30fe-4c4c-8d15-42e47ac1c1c3

Everyday

Morning; I start my day with a quick splash of water after brushing my teeth to get any eye gunk or anything off my face. Then I use my Clinique moisturizer followed by the Formula 10.0.6 blemish spot treatment (if I have any). After I let that set, I have been loving the Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial spray and it has been making my skin so soft and moisturized.

Night; If I haven’t showered, I use the Garnier Micellar water to remove my makeup or just clean my face. Then I use the Formula 10.0.6 spot treatment again. Followed by the Formula 10.0.6 P.M. Perfector night cream or the Neutrogena Deep Moisture night cream. Then because I’ve been loving the Mario Badescu Facial spray, I use it again.

In the Shower

Occasionally, before I shower if I don’t have makeup on I will use the Kalos Triple Threat Detox Masque that I received in a FabFitFun or Causebox.

Super simple; I use the Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover and I use this whether I have makeup on or not. This cleanser takes all of my face and eye makeup off like a dream, I’m not sure if it’s meant to be used for eye makeup but it works. Then I use the Aveeno Skin Brightening Daily scrub to help with any texture that I have. This is followed by one of the routines above, depending on what time of day it is.

That’s It!

My Tattoos & Experiences

I am 22 years old & currently have 4 tattoos.

I have gone to two different tattoo shops, both very different from each other.

My first: two butterflies. These are on my left shoulder blade. I went to Iconic Ink in Grafton, MA to get this done by Kevin. They were absolutely beautiful! And honestly, almost painless. From tattoo stories, I was super nervous but he was friendly and let me take my time. But if anyone wants to get a tattoo here, do it, it barely hurts and they’re beautiful. Over time the tattoo has faded, unfortunately, but due to my neglect to put sunscreen on it. I might eventually go back to get the colors touched up because the tattoo and details are truly beautiful. (I think this was $230 or $320)

*This photo was taken the day it was done.

Tattoo 2: Believe. This was also done by Kevin at Iconic Ink in Grafton, MA. This one was simple and took about 20 minutes (max).  He does beautiful work and I am very happy I had him do this one. This tattoo is on my right ribs. A place that is known to be extremely painful, but I honestly didn’t think it was too bad. A nice place to get a tattoo that people will rarely see unless you’re in a bathing suit. (Minimum Price, approx. $90)

Tattoo 3: I don’t have a photo of this tattoo, but it is the silhouette of a black cat. This tattoo I wish I had thought out more before getting it. From a distance it looks like a black blob, I should have gotten a cat with more detail so it was easily distinguishable. I got this tattoo done at Lucky’s Tattoo & Piercing in Northampton, MA. I’m not sure who did it, though. This tattoo is close to my right knee, and I would say that this one hurt the most. But hurt, in terms of getting a tattoo, mostly means pinchy & uncomfortable. (Minimum Price, approx. $90)

Tattoo 4: Tulip. This one is by far my favorite tattoo so far. It is simple, small, and beautiful. It is on my  Left inner arm. This was also done at Lucky’s and by Alysha. But this took about 15-20 minutes and that was it. (Minimum Price, approx. $90)

*I wish I had a better picture taken with a DSLR, maybe in the future.

The Shops

Iconic Ink: this shop is owned by one man, who at the time was doing tattooing part-time and the only artist in his shop. The shop was two “rooms”, one serving as a giant waiting area, a pool table, and a tiny bathroom. One customer at a time, sort of place & by appointment only. Small and quiet, besides the great music. It was close to home and he was friendly. Kevin is a father who practices tattooing on himself but looks like a total casual dad.

Lucky’s: This is a very large place in a city setting, there are tons of artists and they do more than just tattooing. They have tons of rooms, a loft with a waiting area, huge fish tanks, many customers at once. The workers and artists there has crazy piercings, tattoos everywhere, super hipster, not as easy to approach. Although, they are good at what they do.

April Makeup Haul

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer: Recently I have been noticing more redness of my cheeks and on my nose, so I decided to pick up a foundation. I looked into the Huda No Filter foundation but it was much pricier than I wanted. I went to the Sephora counter to be matched. I am in color .5 Breeze. The Sephora worker applied this to my face with a brush and I don’t think it looked great, so I’m going to try it with a slightly damp sponge and come back with a review. [Link]

Smashbox Primer Water: I usually use the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray but I was l also running out of my primer and saw that this does both. I know this sounds stupid, but this is really wet. I appreciate that there is no scent but it is very wet, you need to make sure not to spray too close to your face when setting your makeup. Overall, I think the setting effect is good. [Link]

Colourpop Twitterpatted Eyeshadow: I am really into light pink eyeshadows all over my lid. And I saw that Colourpop came out with Twitterpated and was really excited. It is a Supershock Shadow. This color looks fairly dark in the pan but when you swatch and use it (better payoff when applying with your finger, btw) there actually isn’t much color. This shadow is mostly sparkles, and it has a lot of fallout. [Link]

Colourpop Concealers: So I am really bad at color matching so I ordered three different colors. Light 12 & Light 14. Then I think Fair 6, for a highlight because the website recommended it. I normally use the Maybelline Age Rewind (which can be a little orange). These concealers do oxidize quite quickly. I tried them over a tinted moisturizer today without a primer and I didn’t love the way the concealer sat on my skin, I’ll need to try it again. [Link]

Colourpop Blotted Lips: This is my favorite formula that Colourpop makes, they are transfer proof and they have a lot of “your lips but better” colors which I am a huge fan of. I bought the two from Eva’s collab, Party Wave & Love Bite.

Colourpop Lip Pencils: I have been wearing lip colors more often and learned that lip pencils can make a huge difference. I wasn’t sure where to start so I ordered them in Toy & Brink. Figured they would match most of the colors that I own.

aaf3a60b-54fb-436f-a39c-7f2d5b793a63

Colourpop Brow Pencil: I have been using the Glossier Boy brow more frequently and have been loving it, but I have graduation and some events coming up and want to make sure my brows are up to par with the rest of my makeup. I got it in Dark Brown, I’ll let you know if that’s too dark or not. [Link]

Covergirl CG Smoothers: I used to use this back in high school, and recently have been looking into tinted moisturizers again. I wanted the Aveeno CC cream but they don’t sell my color in store. I got this in Fair to Light, and do wish I had gotten it in Light to Medium but this provides nice hydration and a nice smoothness to the skin. This smells really nice, too. [Link]

Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Leave-in Spray: I have been heat styling my hair a lot more recently because it is usually just a frizzy, curly mess. So I wanted to buy a heat protectant. I read this on one of Allure’s lists and it was one of the cheapest ones. [Link]

*I left my DSLR at home, I hope these iPhone photos are pleasing enough.

Shows I’m Currently Watching

  • Gossip Girl: A classic, I’ve watched this 1 1/2 times before but I really wanted a show that was mindless and would distract me from my everyday life.
  • River: This show is different but really fun to watch, it’s basically about a cop that sees dead people that are relevant to his life or cases. It’s really interesting and very different than Gossip Girl.
  • Absentia (Amazon Prime): The main character in this is Castle’s partner from the show Castle. This is super good! I don’t want to give too much away but it’s a mystery/crime show.
  • How to Get Away with Murder: Along with the other two shows, I’m watching this with my family, this is filmed differently, there are a lot of flashbacks but it keeps you on your toes and allows you to make your own guesses and assumptions, even though they’re probably wrong.

Recipe to Try: One Pan Honey Garlic Chicken & Veggies

4 Servings      Prep: 10 minutes    Cook Time: 35 minutes     Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

3 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

2 tbsp honey

2 tbsp brown sugar     **next time I’ll use less

1 tbsp Dijon mustard

3 cloves of garlic, minced

1/2 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp dried basil

Salt & Pepper, to taste

16 oz baby red potatoes, I just used the entire bag that I bought

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, I should have used smaller ones because no one could finish the giant pieces I used

24 oz broccoli florets

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F. Lightly oil a baking sheet or coat with nonstick spray. **I should have used nonstick spray because I used too much oil but I don’t think it ruined anything
  2. In a bowl, whisk together 2 tbsp of olive oil, butter (melted), honey, brown sugar, Dijon, garlic, oregano, basil; season with salt & pepper to your liking.
  3. Place potatoes in a single layer onto the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle 1 tbsp olive oil onto the potatoes and season with salt & pepper. Add chicken in a single layer and brush chicken with the mixture with the bowl.
  4. Place into oven and roast until the chicken is at 165 F, internally (about 25-30 minutes). Stir in the broccoli in the last 10 minutes of cooking time (at 15-20 minutes).
  5. Broil for 2-3 minutes.
